Government Grants for Heat Pumps UK
What Government Grants are Available?
Since October 2023, the government has offered grants of £7,500 to help households install air source heat pumps (ASHPs), with enough funding allocated to cover 90,000 homes. The scheme will run until 2028.
There has been high demand, so those who meet the criteria quickly will have the best chance of receiving them.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The government will provide £7,500 grants to encourage property owners to install low carbon heating systems, such as heat pumps, through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).
These grants will help property owners overcome the upfront cost of low carbon heating technologies.
The scheme is being run by OFGEM, and it is up to us, the installer, to apply for the grant on the homeowner’s behalf. We can advise you on whether you are eligible for a grant. We are MCS registered installers and are approved by the government to issue the grant to our clients, as long as the criteria are met.
Please contact us below to book a free consultation and find out if you qualify for the £7,500 grant. If you would like more information on the scheme please visit the OFGEM website, or you can visit the Government website.
Who Can Apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
To receive government incentives for air source heat pumps UK, your property must be located in England or Wales, and the system must replace an existing gas boiler or electric heating system. You’ll also need a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) issued within the last 10 years, with no outstanding recommendations for loft insulation or cavity wall upgrades.
Other eligibility criteria include:
- The property must be a home or small non-domestic building
- The system must be installed by an MCS certified installer
- You must own the property, or have permission from the owner
- Only one grant is allowed per property
Self-build homes may also qualify. However, new builds and social housing do not currently meet the scheme’s conditions.

Benefits of Installing an Air Source Heat Pump
By switching to a low carbon heating system, you can make your home more energy efficient while cutting upfront costs through government grants. The boiler upgrade scheme can reduce installation costs significantly, making it easier to install source heat pumps without needing an interest free loan or other financing options. Using a heat pump helps lower your carbon emissions, reduce energy bills, and improve your overall home energy performance. It’s a smart move for anyone serious about cutting emissions and taking advantage of current government funding to upgrade their heating system.
