Unusual aspect:
This project presented several unique challenges that required a bespoke approach:
- A custom metal frame was designed and fabricated to support the heat pump unit. This allowed the unit to be elevated sufficiently to ensure clear airflow for efficient operation.
- The property’s flint walls prevented standard wall mounting, meaning the system had to be fully self-supporting rather than fixed directly to the structure.
- Internally, the building featured timber-framed vaulted ceilings, which required careful planning around pipe routing and installation access.
- The heating system was designed to work with underfloor heating throughout the property, influencing system design, flow temperatures, and overall layout.
Challenges:
- The property had restricted access due to scaffolding which limited access to installation areas. Careful coordination with other trades was required to safely transport and position equipment, particularly the external heat pump unit.
- The new build has a large footprint with multiple rooms, this required longer pipe runs, careful zoning for underfloor heating and strategic placement of manifolds.
- As this is a new build installation, works had to be timed alongside, structural works and first and second fix stages so coordination was critical to avoid delays and rework.
