Air Source Heat Pump Install – Orpington
CASE STUDY
Orpington - Case Study
A large proportion of the existing radiators required replacement to ensure the system could operate efficiently at lower flow temperatures. Smaller K3 radiators were replaced with much larger K2 radiators, some up to 1.8 metres in length, to provide adequate heat output with the air source heat pump. The system was designed to run at a low design flow temperature, which is unusual for retrofit installations. This required careful heat loss calculations and emitter sizing to ensure comfort levels could still be achieved without reliance on higher temperatures.
Challenges:
- One of the main challenges was fitting all required equipment into the available cupboard space. This included the 300L hot water cylinder and the 25L volumizer, both essential for correct system operation, within a very constrained area.
- The combination of a high heat loss property and restricted internal space meant there was little margin for error. The system design needed to balance thermal performance, equipment sizing, and installation practicality within tight constraints.
