Case Study - Bromley

Unusual Aspect – At the outset of the project, the client did not have sufficient internal space to accommodate the hot water cylinder. To resolve this, a purpose-built plant room was constructed in the rear garden specifically to house the cylinder and associated components. This plant room was positioned close to the property to minimise heat loss and allow efficient integration with the system controls, including the hot water cylinder and the property’s two solar battery units. The installation also formed part of a wider extension project, which required careful coordination to ensure the heat pump system was effectively integrated with the new and existing building infrastructure.

Challenges:

 

  • As the property had no space and had to build a plant room for the cylinder to go into, this added complexity in terms of system layout, pipe routing, and insulation between the main house and the external plant room.
  • Several rooms in the property had insufficient heating capacity with existing radiators, therefore we did many radiator upgrades, which impacted time, cost and system balancing but in doing this the system performance was increased.
  • There was tight pipework spacing for where we had to put the cylinder, so we had to ensure all pipework was correctly insulated, maintain good access for maintenance and avoid any errors.
