Unusual Aspect – The heat pump is located on the garden patio by rear doors as per the customer’s request. The cylinder is located in the kitchen which is less common than locating the cylinder in a cupboard or a plant room. The existing radiator system was not fully compatible with low-temperature operation, which required design consideration.
Challenges:
- As the Grant Aerona 9kw unit is a heavy piece of equipment, we needed multiple operatives to get the heat pump into position.
- Where the heat pump was located, it meant there was a limited amount of working space during installation.
- The installation required compliance with MCS noise limits and included a sound assessment using a rear boundary assessment point and barrier assumptions therefore, correct positioning was important to maintain permitted development status.
- Balancing the system and ensuring adequate flow rates throughout the building is more complex than in a standard two-storey property.
