Air Source Heat Pump Install – Bromley

CASE STUDY

Case Study - Bromley

Unusual Aspect – The most unusual feature of this project was that the heat pump was mounted on the flat roof using wall brackets. In addition, the hot water cylinder was located within the loft space, requiring long insulated pipe runs between the roof-mounted heat pump and the cylinder. The installation also combined underfloor heating on the ground floor with existing radiators upstairs, resulting in a more complex system design and commissioning process than a standard domestic heat pump installation.

Challenges:

  • One of the main challenges on this project was installing a 10kW Grant Aerona3 heat pump on a flat roof. Due to the size and weight of the unit, additional lifting arrangements were required to safely position it.
  • Another challenge was installing the 210L hot water cylinder in the loft, which created access restrictions and required long insulated pipe runs between the roof-mounted heat pump and the cylinder.
  • The project also involved integrating underfloor heating downstairs with existing radiator circuits upstairs, which required careful commissioning and system balancing to ensure efficient operation.
