Air Source Heat Pump Install – Bromley
CASE STUDY
Case Study - Bromley
Unusual Aspect – This project was carried out within a ground floor flat undergoing planned renovation works. A key requirement was to accommodate a future kitchen extension knock-through, which meant the pipework installation needed to allow for later structural changes.
To ensure flexibility for the upcoming works, we intentionally left additional length on both the hot and cold-water pipework. This allowed the pipes to be safely repositioned and extended without the need for intrusive alterations once the wall removal and extension were completed.
Challenges:
- The primary pipework had to be run under the floorboards, connecting the heat pump to the cylinder located inside the property. This was a complex and time-consuming process, involving careful manoeuvring in a confined space. Partway through, we also had to change the type of pipework, as the original selection would not fit into both the Heat Pump and cylinder.
- Another unexpected issue arose in the kitchen area. We had initially been advised that the flooring was suspended, but it turned out to be solid concrete. As a result, we had to lift the existing tiles and drill through the concrete to run the hot and cold pipework. Although this added extra time to the job, we adjusted our plan and ensured the work was completed to a high standard.
- We also identified that the planned position of the heat pump would cause it to extend beyond the side of the property, which the client was not happy with. To resolve this, we installed a suitable concrete slab at ground level, allowing the unit to be securely positioned while meeting the client’s requirements.
