Rather than simply putting a flame under cold water an air source heat pump extracts existing heat from the air and then boosts its temperature and distributes it throughout the home or business. They are sometimes referred to as “air to water” heat pumps because in essence that is exactly what they do. They extract heat from the outside air and then transfer it to water. That heated water then circulates throughout the house feeding the radiators and even underfloor heating elements.

Some of the heated water can also be stored in the hot water tank and made available to your kitchen and bathroom taps, as well as the shower and bath. The level of heat produced by an air source heat pump is more modest than that produced by a boiler, but once you get the hang of using them you’ll find they fulfil all your heat and hot water needs for less than water heated by electricity, oil, natural gas or coal.
